Star Track: Anush Mooradian Wed, 14 May 2008 21:05:00 -0400 Anush Mooradian , 19, of Quinton regularly started at third base this season as a freshman for Division I Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla. She started 47 games and played 50 for the Wildcats (21-36, 9-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who were the Southern Division's top seeds at the league tournament. She finished the year often batting fifth and sixth, ending with a .189 average (21-for-111), 14 runs, three doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI, 13 walks and three times hit by a pitch. She was 3-for-3 on stolen-base attempts and fielded .963. She scored two runs in a 14-9 tournament victory over Florida A&M, B-CU's last victory of the year, and hit the winning sacrifice fly in a 4-3 decision over Morgan State in the tournament's first round. Her squad finished 2-2 in that event as the host team at Ormond Beach, Fla. In the regular season, her highlights included a double and a run in a 3-0 victory at Norfolk State that completed the Wildcats' three-game sweep. Mooradian was a three-sport athlete at New Kent High, from where she graduated in 2007. She had a 3.5 grade-point average. As a senior, she was a first-team Daily Press All-Star and all-Bay Rivers District selection at shortstop. In 12th grade, she hit .347 with six home runs, scored 26 runs and made just 10 errors, displaying good range and a strong arm. She led the Trojans to second place in the state Group AA tournament. She also played for the Trojans' basketball and volleyball teams. At B-CU, she is majoring in business administration. |
