| 1st District Democrat Hummel suspends campaign Thu, 03 Jul 2008 15:16:37 -0500 Dr. Keith Hummel, the Democratic candidate challenging Rob Wittman in the 1st Congressional District, has suspended his campaign. "Although I have always been open about my past financial difficulties, it is clear to me that they will become a distraction from the real issues at stake in this election," Hummel said in a release posted at Fred2Blue, which I picked up from a post by Vivian Paige. Vivian also reports that another Democratic candidate may step forward to take Hummel's place. Wittman was elected in a special election to succeed the late Jo Ann Davis. |

Warner said he spent the day in political meetings (read: fundraising) in Hampton Roads, then headed for the park to spend time in the press box, including an inning on the air with Tides broadcaster Bob Sossa. The rest of the game was spent in a private box with Norfolk city councilman Randy Wright. | Interesting tidbits from Philip Shucet Thu, 03 Jul 2008 09:51:10 -0500 Former Transportation Commissioner Philip Shucet has been working on Hampton Roads transportation problems for more than 14 years, as a private engineering consultant and as the leader of the Virginia Department of Transportation. On Monday we'll run a 10 questions feature with Shucet that focuses on local interstate problems, but here are some excepts from our conversation that didn't make the main article. Shucet is watching the special transportation session of the General Assembly hoping that something happens in Richmond next week. But drawing on his upbringing, Shucet thinks Gov. Tim Kaine should have done more consensus-building before lawmakers returned to the Capital. The medal is awarded to soldiers who have served in any capacity in an area authorized by the Secretary of the Army. The recipients must have distinguished themselves by meritorious service or achievement while acting on behalf of the Army. In addition, Brawley was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal and the Drivers Badge, and re-enlisted for six years after four years of military service. Brawley is an Apache helicopter repairer and crew chief assigned to a Logistical Support Area based in Balad, Iraq. He is the son of Joani R. Brawley of Shreveport, La. His wife, Shawnta, is the daughter of Theodore Price and Betty Price, both of Newport News. |
