The 6-foot-4 swingman, who finds plenty of ways to score, averaged 27.4 points in 18 games for the Itzehoe Eagles, earning his first-team all-star honors in German's North regional league. His team finished 18-24. In March, Waller received a tryout with Ovarense Aerosoles of Portugal, averaging 18.5 points, four rebounds and three steals in two games. Ovarense won its league and the Champions Cup. In 2005-06, Waller played for a squad in Rotterdam, averaging 16 points, five rebounds and 2.1 steals in 26 games for a team that was the Dutch Cup runner-up. Waller won the dunk contest as part of the Dutch league's all-star festivities. As a rookie in 2004-05, he averaged 20.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists for the Haukar team in Iceland, hitting 40 percent from 3-point range. Waller, a left-hander who was a prolific scorer for Highland Springs High just outside Richmond, increased his production in each of his four seasons with ODU. He gradually adjusted to the speed and physicality of college competition. By the time he was a senior, he averaged 12.6 points and 5.0 rebounds, receiving third-team all-Colonial Athletic Association honors. In his last season as a Monarch, he shot 37 percent from 3-point range and led the team with 157 3-point baskets as ODU finished 17-12. |
