| Democrats find replacement candidate to push Wittman... Tue, 05 Aug 2008 15:16:17 -0500 U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman, R-Westmoreland, won the race to replace Jo Ann Davis last December after she died of breast cancer. And it appeared that Wittman was going to be able to cruise into his first two-year term this November after his Democratic challenger Keith Hummel dropped out of the race in early July because of past financial problems. Hummel, an emergency room doctor, had a series a of bankruptcy filings in his past. But almost a full month after Hummel departed, Democrats have drafted Bill S. Day Jr. from Warrenton - basically the opposite end of the sprawling first district from the Peninsula. Day challenged Del. L. Scott Lingamfelter, R-31, in 2007 but lost the race by a 55 percent to 44 percent margin.... |

| Michelle Obama to meet with military families... Mon, 04 Aug 2008 11:57:28 -0500 In addition to an evening fundraiser with Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, Michelle Obama is also going to host a round table discussion with military families on Wednesday afternoon. It looks like a full day affair for the wife of the presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama. Michelle Obama goes back a ways with Kaine and his wife Anne Holton, Obama helpes campaign and fundraise for Kaine 2005 race for the Executive Mansion, and Kaine has returned the favor barnstorming all over the country for Obama's presidential campaign. So far there aren't too many details about the discussion with military folks, but clearly this is an effort to at least put a dent into Republican John McCain's connection with the local military population. McCain is going to... |

But hey how often do you find former employees running around boasting about working in Hampton Roads? To read the story click here. |

Prudent practice Tue, 5 Aug 2008 00:00:00 -0400 Policies that protect the public investment apply to Messick Point Places like Poquoson face a balancing act — honoring history while moving ahead in the 21st century. In Poquoson, geography moves the fulcrum for that act to the waterfront. But it's not so different in a once-rural inland community trying to stay in touch with its agricultural roots while it makes way for new people eager to put down new roots. Or a city that wants to preserve historic structures from a time when ideas of what made a good house were more stripped down than they are today. |

Problem solved. |
